Calling nature based and equine assisted therapists and learning practitioners.
I’ve developed this workshop following a really clear emerging need in my sessions supervising other practitioners. I often find working with young people falling into one of two categories. One is feeling concerned they’re not making enough progress with young clients because they focus is working relationally and meeting the child needs and interests in the moment during a session. The second, is those that have busy young people want to ensure they are well prepared for sessions and spend a lot of time planning lots of ‘doing’ activities in preparation. Now there’s nothing inherently wrong with either of these categories, or where you sit on the sliding scape in between, (I liken it to the psychopath test- if you’re worried about being a psychopath you’re definitely not a psychopath! and if you’re worried about being a bad practitioner you’re most likely not a bad practitioner!)
However, it can be really challenging to balance working in a way that is relational, meeting the child in the moment, and flexible to the needs and figures of interest of the child, while also feeling like you are making progress towards the therapeutic or learning goals. In my practice I have developed a simple blueprint that supports practitioners to gain confidence and competence in striking this important balance when working with young people.
As a teacher and school leader for over 10 years, a psychologist, trainer and supervisor of equine and nature based therapy programs, I’m super passionate about supporting practitioners to develop the planning and reflective practice skills.
Join me in this workshop and I’ll share with you the blueprint are use both proactively and reflectively in developing my intervention plans when working with children and adolescents. A workbook to use in your own practice and recording of the training is included, along with 12 months access to the recording if you can’t make the live workshop. There will be Q&A, my own case studies and some really actionable tools to implement in your practice.
If you would like some support developing your confidence and skills in your ability to work flexibly, responsively and effectively with young people, I’d love for you to join me.
